As the On Air Luxury Gems Specialist for QVC UK, I have the pleasure of presenting stunning diamond jewellery, tanzanite jewellery and South Sea Pearls. Filming with QVC since 2008 I have seen a vast array of jewellery over the years, all designs, metals, stones and price points. So how exciting is it now that to now be retailing Natural Fancy Pink Diamonds!
Over the past few years I have noticed a marked uplift in the retailing of coloured diamonds on QVC moving from HTHP diamonds (High Temperature High Pressure) to now presenting and selling Natural Fancy Coloured Diamonds.
Although there have been numerous stories recently in the press about record prices being achieved for Natural Coloured Fancy Diamonds in the celebrated auction rooms around the world, I still believe it is simply the sheer beauty of these stones driving sales at QVC.
Natural pink diamonds from the Argyle mine in Australia are all but sell outs each time they are offered during a QVC luxury jewellery show, with natural fancy yellows equally well received. The Argyle mine, discovered in 1979 produces nearly 90% of the world’s pink diamond supply. Pink diamonds receive their colour from distortions in the crystal lattice that absorb all the colour entering the stone, leaving just the shade of pink to exit our diamond. Although some scientist speculate that the pink colour may be the result of some kind of seismic shock that altered the stone’s molecular structure. Whatever the reason, the jewellery world cannot get enough of these beautiful stones.
The retailing of Natural Fancy Diamonds on any television shopping channel would never be believed even 5 years ago, yet today they are a hugely popular jewellery product within the QVC offering. Thank you QVC for making pink diamonds available and accessible to all!
